Dodge Caliber 0-60 times

Out of all performance specs, nothing but Dodge Caliber 0-60 times can better speak about the vehicle's temper. While horsepower and torque blow smoke in the eyes, Caliber zero to sixty specs and average time to run a quarter mile are pretty straightforward metrics allowing to compare against its competitors.

Very often there is no chance of doing Caliber 0-to-60 test personally and making conclusions from the experience of the other drivers is the last thing you want.

Conducting a trustworthy test drive requires following a strict methodology that is intended to eliminate the inconsistent circumstances like weather, tires, surface, engine temperature. It is always better to leave it for professionals.

The Dodge Caliber was a great replacement idea for the Dodge Neon. Boasting a roomy interior, flip-down tailgate speakers, an iPod holder and other unique features made it a promising hatchback. Unfortunately, the great idea saw poor execution. The Caliber was of poor quality, appeal, and refinement when compared to rival models. Even with an update to its interior, the vehicle could not keep up with other hatchbacks and sedans. Manufacturers such as Scion, VW and Mazda offer much better options for used wagons and hatchbacks.

The 2008 model is a willing and capable sport wagon. It comes with a wide variety of engines. Consumers get to choose either a 1.8-liter, 4-cylinder that makes 125 pound-feet of torque and 148 horsepower, or a 2.0-liter engine that churns 141 pound-feet of torque and 158 horsepower. Both are optional in the SXT and SE trims. The Caliber R/T carries a 2.4-liter engine that generates 165 pound-feet of torque and 172 horsepower. The high-end Caliber SRT4 boasts a 2.4-liter turbocharged engine that makes 285 horsepower and 265 pound-feet of torque. These may sound impressive but most reviewers find all four engines rather slow. According to The Auto Channel, the 1.8-liter SE is noisy, underpowered and accelerates unimpressively. All engines have unrefined power delivery.

The only promising character is the SRT4 which features a turbocharged engine. However, Edmunds thinks its performance could have been better without the excessive curb weight. The SRT4 hits the 60 mph mark in 6 seconds with the time increasing highly for the lesser engines. The R/T is the only Dodge Caliber available with all-wheel drive. The 1.8-liter engine comes mounted on a 5-speed-manual transmission with the R/T AWD and 2.0-liter engines featuring a standard CVT. With the SRT4, buyers get a 6-speed-manual transmission. The system requires quite a nudge to move the shifter from one gear to the other. It is way better, however, than what the base Calibers get. The 2008 Dodge Caliber comes in 4 trims: SE, SXT, R/T, and SRT4. The SRT4 is a serious muscle car and offers the most distinctive exterior features. Its unique grille and large parasol wing at the rear give it an aggressive appearance. All but the SRT4 come with the Toyota Matrix 2-box design. The overall styling theme is excellent.

The Caliber is muscular and depicts a bruised-knuckle machismo like the one seen in the Magnum and Durango. Adding to the exterior looks are the optional 18- and 19-inch wheels. The 2008 Dodge Caliber has a great exterior. But, it seems that the engineers spent too much time on the outside looks and forgot about the interior. The Caliber SE comes with wind-up windows which according to The Auto Channel are a disappointment.

The instrumental panel carries the basics: water and fuel temperature gauges, a speedometer, a turbo-boost gauge next to the steering but no tachometer. The interior is also overly plasticky and looks and feels cheap. According to Cars.com, however, the all-black materials provide purpose and match the Caliber’s performance characteristics.
