Infiniti Q50 0-60 times

With plenty of brands out there, choosing the best vehicle to conquer the road is the task you are facing every time you have to make a choice.

Nissan provides a good option with Infiniti Q50. The brand was unveiled in 2014 and it enjoyed good reviews. It was revamped in 2016 market year, with upgraded options and better performance.

By keeping faith with the brand, Infiniti decided on doing few upgrades on the previous model in 2016. Changes were minor like the different outward look, improved interior, and features designed to aid drivers, which were not available in previous models.

0-60 mph: progress and competitors

As a good machine on the road, Q50 achieves 0-60 sprint in just 5.2 seconds and attained the quarter-mile running in 13.8 seconds at 102.10 mph. 

Its speed puts it in the good competition with Cadillac ATS V-6, which sprints from 0 to 60 in 5.5 seconds and reaches the quarter mile in 14.0 at just 101.9 mph.

Things look good for Infiniti Q50 until we consider both BMW and Audi. The BMW covers 0-60 mph in as little as 4.7 seconds, and a quarter at 13.3 at 103.9 mph, the Audi model makes the 0-60 in just 4.4 seconds, and quarters at 13.0 at 105.6 mph. 

When considering drifting, Q50 at its best is a good choice, although it puts up a slower rate than its competitors in the review do. 

Q50 makes a lap in just 26.3 seconds averaging 0.71g; compare with Cadillac ATS that performs a lap at 26.0 seconds at an average of 0.71g. the BMW performs a lap faster at 25.7 seconds at an average of 0.71g. 

The Audi S4 is a better performer among the cars under consideration, as it makes 25.6 seconds averaging 0.75g in the process.

Where drifting is of less importance and numbers are not the priority, the Q50 is not on the same par with other cars in terms of fun and involvement.

Specs of the Engine

The engine system is the same. The starting one is a 208-hp,  with a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four, the improved brand engine is 300-hp twin-turbo 3.0-liter, while the hybrid's engine is 360-hp 3.5-liter V-6.

The range topper is made of 3.0-liter V-6, which can be tuned to an impressive 400 hp. 

All the powertrains are joined to the automatic transmission consisting of seven-speed and paddle shifter made of magnesium available on 3.0t Sport and the Red Sport 400.

The beauty of Q50 is its better value in the segment. With the price almost the same or below its closest rivals. 

Starting at $35,105 for the 2.0t Pure, 2.0t Luxe up for grab at $37,455, the 3.0t Luxe rocks the market at $39,855, the 3.0t Sport available at $41,555, the Hybrid Luxe sells at $51,505, and Red Sport 400 looks like the most expensive at $51,905.

All the models are rear-wheel drive, although the all-wheel is available at an additional cost of $2,000 across the board. All the mentioned above, has a price tag of $1,500 performance package and the performance exhaust from the new factory is $589 to $681, it depends on if the muffler is involved.

The exterior

There aren't many changes to speak off since Infiniti's decides to go for just facelift instead of total product revamp, but there are few things worthy of discussion.

Headlight and hood are from the recent model, funny enough, Infiniti didn't upgrade the headlight section. The grille is a new design though, but it may be difficult to spot the difference at first glance. 

The verdict 

It's not misleading to say Infiniti chose the Q50 has the brand to lead in the highly competitive market. Its adoption of powertrain and new features, long before other makers in the lineup, is a testimony to Infiniti's decision. 

In a segment that has lost some of its vibes, the Red Sport 400 is a powerful dual purpose sedan that can make the difference, despite its imperfections.
